A day before our shoot, we met in the afternoon, in the media studio to set up and bring a few heavy props- bunk bed, projectors, fake walls, etc. I also made sure to print out the storyboard into an A4 sheet of paper to serve as a guide for the shoot day.
Waking up in the morning of the shoot day, i felt calm and prepared. Before the shoot, we needed to prepare the first set. We set up the fake walls, painted them dark blue and hooked them from the back. We brought the bunk bed in and decorated it with sheets, blankets and pillows along with other props. We also gave out the costumes for the actors and set up the tracks to start recording.
Prior to setting up, we needed to paint and set up 3 walls and a projector. The studio's floor wasn't appropriate for a 'bedroom location'. Therefore, we set up a fake stone floor to cover the shooting area.
On the shoot day we kept switching roles of director, cameraman, clapper person to set handler. I was also given the role to take pictures and videos of the production process for behind the scenes footage for the social media page.
Personally, I feel like I did particularly well gathering enough footage to create our group's social media/promo and BTS videos. I also did well taking care of our actors and making sure they felt comfortable.
Throughout our shoot we didn't have many problems, I feel like time-management was a bit of an issue near the end to record the last scene. I also had a problem with the teamwork and the delegation of different roles as I wasn't able to do much like be the cameraman and shoot a few scenes.
However, the shoot went really well. The most successful part, in my opinion, was how the first set up turned out. We were unsure of how the set would look using the projector as the "wallpaper", but it ended up looking great.
During the shoot, we didn't follow any plan or checked the storyboard for the shots we initially wanted. The process felt a bit chaotic and felt like we were making it up as went. I wish we had prepared more carefully what we were going to do on the shoot day, that might've led us to shooting a better music video.
What was the part of the shoot you enjoyed the most?
I enjoyed the most
Apart from getting to know our actors, I also enjoyed setting up, painting the walls and seeing process of creating our first set.
I'm looking forward to seeing how the narrative and performance cuts will be edited together as well as how the projectors/wallpapers look on camera.
How well do you feel that your production group worked as a team?
In the beginning, I had a hard time working with my class members. Since I've never talked to them before, I struggled to communicate with them. However, each of our individual skills helped us create a high-quality work.
