Why is album artwork still important and how is it used?

"The Fame" was Gaga's debut album released in 2008, highlighting the iconic single "Just Dance". The genre of the album is pop/electro-pop. The album's cover introduces the star image with an extreme closeup of the artist's face and name in large letters below. The album's cover represents the songs' concepts of fame/ 70s glam as well as the video clip. The main colors, blue, black and yellow, are used in both products.
